THE EIGHTY-FOUR AL'S AMONGST MATHURS: (ARRANGED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
Source: Old records & similar lists circulated earlier by Mathurs from U. P. & Rajasthan
NOTES:
1 .As is well known, Mathur Al's are exactly 84 in number - no less, no more. Source lists from U.P. and Rajasthan contain more than 84, apparently due to
(a) inadvertent inclusion of some Al's of other Kayasthas and
(b) duplication of some similar sounding Al's.
2. Spellings and pronunciations of some Al's listed above may be known somewhat differently to some readers but should be good enough for practical use.
3. Minor inaccuracies and discrepancies in all such lists, including this one, can not be ruled out.
4. Some new Al's were later created by people themselves. For example, in the 18th Century some oppressed Mathurs of different Al's from Delhi & around fled to nearby Narnaul (in today's Haryana) and in gratitude to being sheltered there, amalgamated their various Al's and coined 'NARNAULIA' Al for themselves.
