New Arrivals & Departures

Dear Member

1. OUR NEXT FUNCTION

The Managing Committee, MAB, takes pleasure in announcing that its next function (Holi get-together) will be held on Sunday, 20th April, 2003 from 6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. at the following venue

Good Shepherd Church Lawns
Sangeetkar N. Dutta Marg,
Off Four Bungalow Road,
Andheri (W), Mumbai - 400 058

Note: This function could not be fixed for the previous day (the third Saturday, as per our norms) due to non availability of the venue for 19th April, being next day to Good Friday.

1. The venue is the same where we have been having our functions for a few years past and we are sure the location is familiar to most of our members. The Church is a prominent landmark in the Four - Bungalow area, known to everybody around. Entry to the venue is from the N. Dutta Marg, which takes off from the 4 - Bungalow Road just round the Church corner. However, for newcomers and for those who have not so far been to this venue, a rough sketch showing the approach to the venue location is provided herewith.

Any further or more specific guidance about the venue location, approach etc., can be had from any one of our following Committee members

a) Shri Taj Bahadur, (Tel 2636 3340 / 2631 9319)
b) Shri Anil Mathur, (Tel 2579 7081)
c) Shri Ajit Mathur, (Tel 2649 8673 / 2648 1744)

1. Dinner, snacks, drinks will be available as usual. Collect your free ice-cream     coupons with every dinner coupon purchased.

2. Because of time restrictions on sound, we are compelled to close down our    entertainment programs by 10.00 p.m. It is, therefore, earnestly requested that      members arrive early so as to enjoy the function to it's maximum.

A variety entertainment program with exciting games, stage performances etc. awaits you. Those interested in presenting any item are welcome and may contact any of the following:

a) Smt. Rajni Mathur, Khar (W) Phone: 2649 8673 / 2648 1744
b) Smt. Savita Mathur, (Powai), Phone: 2579 7081

1. Annual Membership of Rs. 75/- for the year, 2003 - 04, may kindly be paid by al members (other than Life Members) at the Reception counter. Members not abl to attend this function may kindly remit it to our office address through a crossed cheque / DD in favour of “Mathur Association Bombay” at an early date.

2. When you approach the Reception Counter (or for any communication any time with the MAB), please do specify your MAB Directory Ref. No. (like C-2, W-12, NE-5, etc.) in addition to your name. This will enable us to locate you quickly in our members list and correctly credit your payments against your name. Besides, this will save a lot of your and our time at the Reception counter, especially during the peak rush.

Your reference number is always noted on the address cover of the News Letter.

2. OUR LAST DIWALI FUNCTION – A REVIEW

1. Our last (Diwali) function held on Sunday, 22nd December 2002 at the Church lawns was attended by 223 guests, including quite a few first timers. It is always our pleasure to welcome the new comers and to include them in the folds of the Mumbai Mathur biradari. The entertainment items, food, snacks, etc., provided were liked by all. We specially thank all the participants for providing a lively stage / floor program.

2. The Managing Committee has special thanks for the following for their very helpful participation during the function.

a) Shri Chetan Mathur, (Jogeshwari / NW-124) for compereing the stage items.
b) Shri M D Mathur, (Bandra-W / W-26) and Capt. Virendra Aindley (Andheri-W / NW-131) for manning the Reception counters.
c) Smt. Sunita Mathur, (Khar-W / W-40) for her continued help in organizing games, stage items and other arrangements.

Sponsorship / Donations

We gratefully acknowledge the following sponsorships and sincerely thank the respective sponsors / donors for their generous gesture for the function:

a) Shri Taj Bahadur (Andheri-W / NW-119) for sponsoring 5 bottles (as per need) of R C Whiskey, valued about Rs. 2200/-
b) Smt. Renu & Shri Sushil K. Mathur (Powai / NE-44) for providing, as usual, free ice cream to all the guests.

1. A special feature (now gradually gaining popularity) in the function was the setting    up on nominal charges, of sales stalls by two of our members, as follows:

a) Mrs Kavita Mathur (Koper Khairane / E-80)
b) Shri Kaushal Mathur, (Santa Cruz-E / W-73)

It was a welcome venture by the two and we are sure it turned out to be attractive and useful. We hope such stalls continue to show up in our future functions for the benefit of the Biradari.

3. LIFE MEMBERSHIP

We repeat our request to members to take up Life Membership by paying a onetime membership fee of Rs. 750/- for themselves & spouse.

Life membership relives you of the botheration of remembering to pay every year. It also helps us too, since your life membership is put in a bank fixed deposit and its interest becomes your permanent contribution towards our function expenses year after year.

We heartily welcome Shri R B Mathur / Mrs Kamlesh (Santa Cruz-E / W-35) for taking our Life Membership during the last function on 22.12.02:

4. MAB SUB – ZONES

In our last Newsletter dated 2.12.02 we had informed about the formation of Sub-Zones (covering all off Mumbai & outskirts) and published a list of Sub-Zonal Representatives (SZR’s) in each of the six MAB Zones. We are glad to inform that by now all SZR’s are in position and each has been assigned a reasonable number of listed members in his charge, depending upon geographical location and ease of contact. Most of the SZR’s have already contacted the respective members in their respective charge and the remaining ones are in the process of doing so. A list of SZR’s was circulated earlier (our last newsletter of December 2002), a finalized copy of which is enclosed. Please preserve this copy for your future reference and contact with your SZR.

We have received very useful feed-back and information about changes of member’s address, phone numbers, arrivals / departures etc., so painstakingly collected by our dedicated SZR’s for which they deserve our sincere thanks and appreciation. We request you and the SZR’s to please keep regular touch with each other, thus ensuring a better and much needed rapport between yourself and the MAB. They are an all-important link between you and the MAB for any suggestion, communication or interaction or for organizing any Zonal activities / functions in your Zone.

Newcomers to the MAB in future will continue to be similarly assigned to some SZR or the other, depending upon their address.

5. SPONSORSHIP

Due to continued steep rise in the cost of food materials, venue hire charges, Newsletter printing & postage etc., it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to meet the function expenses. As you are aware, we are somehow holding on so far the dinner coupon price to a highly subsidized and comfortably affordable Rs. 60 each to encourage better participation and a wider Biradri meet, which is the main objective of our holding the functions.

For the much needed augmentation of funds for our functions to be held on the present scale, increasing the food coupon price will be our last and reluctantly adopted option, to be exercised only after other viable alternatives like sponsorship / donations etc., from our generous members have been gone through. Under the above circumstances while drawing member’s kind attention to our appeal on this subject, repeated perpetually in our past Newsletters, we request for their help and patronage for our functions by taking any of the following sponsorship which will go a long way in our being able to hold good functions

A. Give a Corpus Donation, which could be put in a Bank FD and its interest, used as your running contribution at each function.
B. Give whatever you wish as a spot cash / cheque contribution during our function(s) towards function expenses.
C. Sponsor (wholly or partly, individually or jointly) an item of the function(s) by contributing the amount shown against each

Venue hire Rs. 5000/- Lighting, tables, chairs, etc Rs. 3000/-
Non-veg material Rs. 5000/- Hard Drinks (Whisky & Beer) Rs. 3000/-
Cooking & Service charges Rs. 5000/- Soft Drinks Rs. 1500/-
Music & Entertainment Rs. 3000/- Miscellaneous function expenses Rs. 1000/-

Note: Though the actual expenses on these items are usually more, sponsorship amount has been limited to the above or actuals, whichever is less.

a) Any other way desired, e.g., Donation on a marriage or any other happy occasion in the family or business.
b) Your generosity will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged in our Newsletters. You may give your sponsored amount either during the function itself or contact any of the following for further details and processing your contribution

Your Zonal Representative
Shri Shamsher Barellia, (Mahim / C-25), Tel 2446 7212
Shri Mahesh C Mathur, (Churchgate / S-18), Tel 22013328 / 22034148

6. MAB DIRECTORY

A. MAB Directory – As already informed, the present MAB Members Directory (1999 Edition) has been put on the Internet at address http://www.geocities.com/bombaymathurs. It is currently updated upto 31st January 2003 and will be kept regularly updated as much as possible, say every quarter till we come out with our new Directory proposed sometime this year. This website can be accessed from your PC, or from a neighboring cyber cafe and will be useful to our External members too, as also to any Mathur anywhere in India or abroad.

B. MAB Directory-2003 - An appeal: The publishing of the Directory costs a lot, well beyond our normal means, especially as it is offered to members at a much-subsidized price. We, therefore have to depend on our members in raising the necessary funds by donations from individual members and through advertisements from well wishers, companies and business houses. A good number of our members are themselves well placed in reputed companies or are doing well in their own professions / business and can, therefore, be of great help by offering their own advertisements or obtaining advertisements from sources known to them. Samples and patterns of the various types of advertisements can be seen in the Advertisements Section of our present 1999 edition Directory and can be shown to prospective advertisers who are approached.

We request all our members to please try their best to collect as many advertisements as possible, beside their own one, as per the following schedule.

a) Back cover (outside) Rs. 5000/- already booked
b) Back cover (inside) Rs 3500/- already booked
c) Front cover (inside) Rs 3500/- already booked
d) Bookmark (one) Rs. 2000/- already booked
e) Zone Dividers (colored full page one side) Rs. 2,500 /- each
f) Full page (one side) Rs. 1,000 /- each
g) Half page Rs. 500 /- each

For any further information / processing your advertisements kindly contact any of the following:

a) Shri Krishna Murari (Tel: 2746 8573)
b) Shri Mahesh C. Mathur, (Tel: 2201 3328 / 203 4148)
c) Shri Shamsher B. Barellia, (Tel: 2446 7212

Kindly ensure advertisement materials with crossed cheques in favour of “Mathur Association Bombay” are sent to any of the above members as soon as possible. Appeal letters for advertisements can be sent on request.
